About AMA & Myology
1.American Myology Association (AMA): Our Mission & Vision

Founded to advance the study, clinical practice, and global awareness of myology (the science of muscles), the American Myology Association (AMA) is a leading professional organization dedicated to improving muscle health for all.

Our mission is to revolutionize healthcare by delivering convenient, and affordable non-pharmacological care, aiming to make a go-to solution for those seeking natural relief and well-being,and to bridge gaps between myology research, clinical care, and public education—empowering myologists, healthcare providers, students, and patients with evidence-based resources to address muscle-related conditions.

We focus on three core goals:

  • Accelerate innovation in myology research (e.g., skeletal muscle disorders, smooth muscle function, muscle pain mechanisms);
  • Standardize clinical practices for muscle health (including Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling, rehabilitation protocols, and diagnostic guidelines);
  • Raise public understanding of muscle health to prevent, manage, and treat muscle-related diseases.

Our vision is a world where every individual has access to specialized myology care, and muscle health is prioritized as a cornerstone of overall well-being. We strive to become the global hub for myology collaboration, connecting professionals across 20+ countries through our clinics network, research partnerships, and educational programs.

2.What Is Myology?

The Science of Muscles Explained Myology is the branch of biology and medicine focused on the structure, function, development, and disorders of muscles—encompassing "skeletal muscles" (the muscles that power movement), "smooth muscles" (found in organs like the digestive tract and heart), and "cardiac muscle" (the specialized muscle of the heart). Unlike general anatomy, myology dives deep into:

  • How muscles contract, repair, and adapt to stress (e.g., exercise, injury);
  • Muscle-related conditions (e.g., chronic muscle pain, peripheral vascular-induced muscle ischemia, smooth muscle dysfunction, and insomnia secondary to muscle discomfort);
  • Evidence-based treatments to restore muscle function (such as physical therapy, Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling, and nutritional interventions).

At AMA, we expand the scope of myology to be inclusive of both clinical care and patient empowerment. For example:

  • For myologists: Myology provides the scientific foundation for diagnosing rare muscle disorders and refining treatment plans;
  • For patients: Myology explains why muscle pain may trigger insomnia, or how pelvic floor muscle dysfunction affects daily life—turning complex science into actionable insights;
  • For students: Myology serves as the gateway to careers in muscle research, rehabilitation, or specialized clinical practice.

3.AMA’s Core Values: Guiding Our Work

Every initiative at AMA is rooted in four values to ensure we serve our community with integrity and impact:

  • Expertise: We mainly share evidence-based content, peer-reviewed by board scientists and leading researchers in the field; -
  • Inclusivity: We welcome myologists, allied healthcare providers, students, and patients—ensuring resources are accessible to all skill levels and backgrounds;
  • Collaboration: We partner with myology clinics, academic institutions, and patient advocacy groups to drive collective progress;
  • Patient-Centeredness: We design programs (e.g., patient guides, community forums) to center the needs of those living with muscle-related conditions, ensuring their voices shape our work.

4.Our Journey:

Key Milestones since our founding, AMA has grown to become a trusted resource for the global myology community. Highlights include:

  • Launch of the AMA Myology Clinics Network: A directory of specialized clinics worldwide, staffed by certified myologists trained in muscle diagnosis and treatment;
  • Development of the Myologist or FSN practitioner Certification Program: A standardized credential for professionals, ensuring consistent quality in myology care;
  • Annual Myology Symposium: A global event bringing together experts to share the latest in muscle research, treatment, and education.

Whether you’re a myologist or FSN practitioner seeking clinical resources, a patient managing a muscle condition, or a student exploring myology, AMA is here to support your journey toward better muscle health.
